Lark (as "Vlad" from the Old Country) talks with other Graywall residents in jail. She learns nobody knew of Jessel Tarra'az until that night. They are angry at Vampire Mommy for what happened at the Bloody Blade Shrine, but still trust Lan Hazal and believe the blood ritual would have revealed the truth of the terror attacks. Their opinions of Wultram Kazkov are divided: some believing he was eccentric albeit harmless whilst others believed him erratic and insane. Lark takes away that the Graywall community was not responsible for the Diamond Theatre attack. While skeptical of "Vlad", the Sharn City Watch eventually release Lark after questioning.
The party meets with Captain Buchanan, Constance d'Medani, Viktor d'Deneith and Corwith ir'Cullen to negotiate terms. Buchanan offers the party amnesty for prior actions in exchange for infiltrating the Bloody Blade Shrine. Buchanan wants the party for this task so that the King's Swords have plausible deniability if things go sour. He gives them "discs" to snap if the city is in danger which will summon King's Swords to their location. He also gives them 200 gold to help finance the infiltration. Buchanan allows the party to review the existing evidence. He is unsure where the Shrine is but knows that Lan Hazal has been staying at The Hazal Residence in Graywall.
The party returns to Talos's Apartment and plan to infiltrate The Hazal Residence in Graywall. Jacopo wonders if the discs given to them by the King's Swords are being used to spy on the party.
Lark, disguised as the foreman Bargast, assists the party in successfully infiltrating The Hazal Residence in Graywall. In his apartment, they find a set up game of Conqueror, financial documents, a Blood of Vol book and a dagger that doubles as a key to a hidden trapdoor.
The Party take sky coaches to Graywall, a Karrnathi enclave within Middle Tavick's Landing. In transit, members of the party learn that Jacopo hates "gobos" and that Cinder fought for Cyre - on opposite sides of the War to Nazari and Zelandris.
The Party arrive at Graywall and find a crooked tower matching the address for Wultram's Apartment. They break in and find a pair of wooden cages: one, with a ghoul; and the other, with a gaunt man named Jonas. After questioning him, the Party realizes he had been captured and deliberately scratched by a ghoul. Zelandris surmises this could be a Karrnathi attempt at creating self-replicating undead.
The fleeing party members are chased by the Graywall militia, led by a man they would later recognize to be Mikhael Fedorov. The Party escape using feather tokens and jumping off a nearby bridge (except for Lark, who shape changes to escape). They regroup at the Glum Gryphon. The rest of the Party questions how Lark was able to get away without jumping.
Gus asks the party to investigate Wultram's Apartment in Graywall, a Karrnathi neighborhood of Middle Tavick's Landing. In particular, Gus wants evidence that Wultram was working for someone else.
